Proudly serving the 28th Legislative District:
Hillside, Irvington, Maplewood, Newark (West and South Ward), South Orange
Democrat Garnet R. Hall is seeking her second term in the 28th Legislative District of the New Jersey General Assembly to continue her fight for environmental justice, improved transit options in our cities and towns, and work toward strengthening gun legislation to provide greater protection for all residents, particularly women.
In the Assembly, Hall serves on the Environmental, Labor, and Consumer Affairs Committees, where she has worked tirelessly to advance these issues, and more. In her first term, she was successful in delivering an Ambulance Unit for the West Ward of Newark, as well as $250,000 for the South Orange-Maplewood School District.
Hall is a member of the Legislative Black Caucus and was honored earlier this year by the Essex County Commissioners for African American History Month. In 2022, Hall was recognized by the Essex County Commissioners' office with the “Women of Government Award.”
In addition to serving in the State Assembly, Hall serves as Essex County’s Deputy Clerk, where she worked to execute the “Vote By Mail-In Person Pilot Program” in 2019. That program was so successful that in 2022, Hall helped create the VBM program initiative, delivering thousands of VBM applications and ballots throughout Essex County, while working closely with Get Out the Vote (GOTV) teams for the Democratic Party.
Before her election to the Assembly, Hall served for many years as the Vice Chair of the Maplewood Democratic Committee, where she worked in campaign organization for dozens of candidates at the local, county, state, and national level. Her professional experience includes work in corporate business, development, accounting, and sales management.
Hall is a lifelong resident of Essex County. She was born and raised in Montclair but has been a 35-year resident of Maplewood, where she resides with her husband, George Hall, who retired from General Motors as a Union Trustee, Local 595, Region 9, in Linden, N.J. They have two adult children, a son who currently serves as a Newark Police Officer and a daughter who works as a Registered Nurse. Both graduated from the South Orange-Maplewood School District.
It has been Hall’s lifelong goal to serve her community and make a difference in the quality of life for everyone, and it is this goal that propels her in her service in the State Assembly.
